Why Can't I Skip the Process God Is Taking Me Through?

Because what God is building in you during the process is just as important as what He's building through you after it. You can't skip it because you are the material being worked on. And unfinished material cannot hold what's coming.
If you're honest, you probably don't just want purpose. You want to get there faster. You want to skip the part that feels slow, the part that feels hidden, the part where you're doing real work and nobody seems to be watching. The part where you feel ready but nothing around you has confirmed it yet.
Here's the hard truth and the good news wrapped together. The process is not something God is doing to you. It is something God is doing in you. And you cannot receive on the outside what hasn't been built on the inside yet.
Unfinished Roots Cannot Hold the Weight
Think about what happens when a tree doesn't have deep roots. A big wind comes and the whole thing topples over. It doesn't matter how tall it was or how impressive it looked on the outside. Without roots, it cannot hold its own weight under pressure.
The same is true for purpose. God is not withholding your next season to be cruel. He is developing your root system so that when the weight of what He's called you to actually arrives, you can hold it. Because some of us have prayed for open doors and platforms and opportunities, and if God had given them to us in the season we were asking, we would have toppled. Not because we weren't gifted, but because the roots weren't there yet.
Galatians 6:9 (NKJV) says, "And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap, if we do not lose heart." Due season. His timing. Not ours.
Jesus Couldn't Skip It Either
Before Jesus ever asked His disciples who they believed He was, He had spent three years doing the work. He was teaching. He was healing. He was building relationships with people no one else thought were worth stopping for. He was developing His disciples, not just following them around, but actually getting them to do things themselves. John 6 shows Him giving them instructions and having them participate in the feeding of the five thousand. He was developing others, building a succession plan, establishing the roots that would hold the mission forward after He was gone.
And it was only after all of that work, after three years of building, that He asked, who do you say that I am? It was after the receipts were in place that Peter could answer with any conviction at all. You are the Christ, the Son of the living God. That confession didn't come from nowhere. It came from three years of watching, of witnessing, of the work doing its job in Peter's heart.
You cannot rush someone else's belief in what God put in you. And you cannot rush the development of what God is building inside you. Both take time. Both require showing up consistently before the moment of confirmation arrives.
What Is God Actually Building in You Right Now?
Here's what the process is actually doing while you're in it.
It's building your character. The gifts God gave you are powerful, but character is what determines whether you can steward them well. The process tests you, refines you, reveals what's still counterfeit in you so it can be dealt with before it gets a bigger stage.
It's building your relationships. Jesus built real relationships, real connections, real trust before He ever relied on those people to carry anything forward. Relationships built in the middle of the process are more durable than relationships built after the platform arrives.
It's building your credibility. Not the self-promoted kind. The kind that comes from showing up, doing the work, and letting people come to their own conclusions about what God has placed in you. That is the kind of credibility that holds.
Shed the idea that the process is punishment. Shed the belief that you are behind. Shed the comparison to someone else's timeline. And shed the shortcut. There isn't one. Not one that leads somewhere worth going.
Take this to the Word yourself. Galatians 6:9, Proverbs 18:16, James 1:2-4, Romans 5:3-4.
What This Means for You
What is one thing God might be building in you right now that could only be built in this particular season?
This continues The Awesome 3 series. Last time, we looked at why Jesus didn't rush to the cross and what that means for the season you're in. Next, we'll get into why God doesn't reveal everything to you at once, and why that's actually one of the most strategic things He does.
I teach God's Word weekly inside the SheShed Community, and this is exactly the kind of teaching that hits different when you're in the room for it. The replay of this teaching, "The Awesome 3," is available inside the community as well. Come sit with us.
