Why Do I Keep Repeating the Same Struggles?

Because he keeps going back to what works. Until you study your own film and get honest about where he has been consistently successful with you, the cycle will continue. Awareness is not weakness. It is your first move toward breaking the pattern.
You have been here before. This exact situation, this exact feeling, this exact kind of hit. And somewhere in the back of your mind you are thinking, why does this keep happening to me? Why does it always seem to be this area? Why, no matter how much I pray or how much I grow, does this thing keep finding me?
Here is the answer. He keeps going back to what works. And until you study the pattern, you cannot interrupt it.
Why Does the Enemy Keep Hitting the Same Spots?
James 1:12-14 (NKJV) says, "Blessed is the man who endures temptation, for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him. Let no one say when he is tempted, 'I am tempted by God'; for God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He Himself tempt anyone. But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed."
He draws you away through your own desires and enticements. He has watched long enough to know which ones work on you. And he is going to keep using them until you close that door.
Think about it practically. If he knows that hitting your finances rattles you enough to get you off course, he is going to keep hitting your finances. If he knows that a particular fear or insecurity will send you into a spiral that takes you out of the game for weeks, he is going to keep pushing on that fear. If he knows that a certain kind of criticism about your gifts will make you want to quit, expect criticism around your gifts. He is strategic. He is not random. He is going back to every single play that has worked before.
What Does Studying Your Own Film Actually Look Like?
In Rocky 4, Rocky did not show up to fight Drago the way Apollo did. Apollo walked in arrogant and unprepared. Rocky watched what happened to his friend, and he trained. He ran in the snow. He boxed meat. He ran against cars. He changed his diet. He was disciplined every single day because he understood that this opponent was not one you could walk into casually.
Studying your own film means you sit down and get honest. Where has the enemy been consistently successful with you? Where has he won and where has he lost? When he hit you through your relationships, did that take you out? When he hit you through fear of what other people thought about your gifts, did that slow you down? When he sent financial pressure right when you were trying to step into something God was calling you to, did that stop you?
I'll tell you what my film looks like. When I started leading women's ministry at my church, a tax lien showed up in the mail the night before our very first prayer breakfast. When I ministered to a woman on a Friday afternoon, I got hit by a taxi cab on one side, got pushed into a pole on the other, and walked out of a totaled car without a scratch. When I launched the very first SheShed lesson, the sheriff showed up at my door the next day with a jury summons I had missed. He studied my film. He knew that when I stepped into purpose around women, that was his moment to swing.
But here is what I also had to see in that film. The weapons were forming. But they were not prospering. The lien got resolved. I walked out of that accident without a scratch. The jury situation worked itself out. He kept swinging and I kept standing. That is in the film too. And knowing that matters as much as knowing where he hits.
How Do You Break the Cycle?
You break it by naming it and then praying specifically around it. Not vague prayers. Targeted prayers. If you know finances are your entry point, you pray intentionally over your finances every time you step into something new. If you know fear of rejection is where he consistently gets you, you go to the Word specifically about what God says about your identity and your calling and you build that wall before you need it.
You also stop being surprised. Surprise is one of his most effective weapons. When the hit comes out of nowhere, the shock of it is part of what takes you down. But when you have studied the film, you see it coming. And when you see it coming, you can stand firm instead of spiraling.
1 John 4:4 (NKJV) says, "You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world." Greater. Not equal. Greater. But that truth has to be something you are actively standing on, not just something you have heard before.
Take this to the Word yourself. James 1:12-14, 1 John 4:4, Isaiah 54:17, Romans 8:37.
What This Means for You
What is the one area where the enemy has been most consistently successful with you? And what would it look like to start praying specifically and intentionally around that entry point before his next attempt?
This continues The Game series. Last time, we talked about how to recognize spiritual attack vs. just going through life. Next, we will get into one of the most powerful and most neglected weapons you have access to, your testimony, and why sharing it is actually an act of spiritual warfare.
I teach God's Word weekly inside the SheShed Community, and this is exactly the kind of teaching that hits different when you're in the room for it. The replay of this teaching, "The Game," is available inside the community as well. Come sit with us.
