Why Don't I Feel Like the Powerful Person God Created Me to Be?

If you were created in the image of God, your power was settled before you were ever born. Genesis shows that God spoke your design into existence in spirit before your body was ever formed, and that design included dominion. The question was never whether He gave it to you. The question is whether you know it.

I get it. You love God. You read your Bible. You might even be serving somewhere right now. And still, there's a question you don't say out loud, because saying it out loud feels like admitting you're not as strong in your faith as you should be. The question is this. If God really created me with power, why don't I feel powerful?

Here's what I want you to know before we go any further. That question is not a faith problem. It's a fundamentals problem. You were never taught how God actually designed your life to unfold, so you've been trying to feel powerful without ever understanding where your power came from in the first place.

So let's get into Genesis. I know what you're thinking. Genesis again. You think you already know Genesis. He created the heavens and the earth, then Adam, then Eve, they ate the fruit, there was a fall, and on we go. That's the Genesis you remember. I promise you, by the time we're done, you're going to see something in there you have never seen before.

What Does the Bible Actually Say About How God Designed You?

Here's tool number one for understanding your design. Words create.

In Genesis 1:11 (NKJV), on the third day, God said, "Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb that yields seed, and the fruit tree that yields fruit according to its kind, whose seed is in itself, on the earth." He created trees and herbs and fruit trees. That's day three.

Now scoot over to Genesis 2:4-5. After the seventh day, after everything had already been created, it says this is the history of the heavens and the earth when they were created, in the day that the Lord God made the earth and the heavens, before any plant of the field was in the earth and before any herb of the field had grown. Stay with me here. In Genesis 1, God already said the trees and the herbs existed. But in Genesis 2, after the seventh day, it says none of that had appeared on the earth yet.

It was already created in spirit. It just hadn't shown up yet.

I'll show you again. Genesis 1:24 (NKJV), day six, God said, "Let the earth bring forth the living creature according to its kind." The beasts were created right there with His words. Now go to Genesis 2:19 (NKJV). "Out of the ground the Lord God formed every beast of the field and every bird of the air, and brought them to Adam." The same beasts God already created with His words in Genesis 1 did not actually appear on the scene until Genesis 2:19.

Words create. Then formation happens after.

Now here's where it gets personal. Genesis 1:26-27 (NKJV). "Then God said, 'Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness, let them have dominion...' So God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him, male and female He created them." That happened on day six, in spirit, before Adam was ever formed from dust in Genesis 2:7.

You were created in spirit, with dominion, with purpose, before you ever showed up on this earth. Before your mama gave birth to you, He had already created you in the image of the fullness of God. Father, Son, Holy Spirit. That's the design He gave you. Power was never something you had to earn or work up. It was spoken into you before you had a body to carry it in.

My Own Wrestle With This

I'll be honest with you about my own struggle with this. It took me a long time to embrace certain things about myself. My lips, my nose, my eyes, my cheeks, things I spent years wishing looked different. But God carefully crafted every single thing about me, and I had to come to terms with that. He's the Artist. He didn't rush. The same is true for you. Everything about you, He crafted meticulously. Shedding the belief that He didn't carefully consider every part of you is part of believing you were created powerful in the first place.

So why don't you feel powerful? Because somewhere along the way, you started believing that what happened to you, your mistakes, your age, your past, the things life has done to you, could erase what God already spoke over you in spirit. It can't. Your design was settled before your story ever started. He said what He said.

Here is what I need you to shed today. Shed the belief that you are powerless. Shed the belief that the spiritual part of you and the natural part of you are somehow disconnected, like what was spoken over you in spirit doesn't apply to the life you're actually living. That's a lie, and it's kept too many of us small for too long.

Yes, you. You were created in the image of God. Yes, you. You were given dominion before you ever drew breath. The question was never whether He gave you power. The question is whether you're going to walk like you believe it.

Take this to the Word yourself. Proverbs 18:20-21, Matthew 12:36-37, Romans 10:9-10, Ephesians 1:3-6.
