Why Your Choices Matter More Than You Think

Your choices are not small details in God's plan. They are the very mechanism by which what He already created in spirit becomes visible in your life. Genesis shows this clearly, and Adam's story makes it impossible to miss.
Words create. Actions form. And here's the third reality Scripture shows us. Choices manifest.
Does the Bible Say Your Choices Actually Matter?
There's a passage in Genesis we tend to skip past too quickly, and it changes everything once you actually slow down and read it. Genesis 2:18 (NKJV) says, "And the Lord God said, 'It is not good that man should be alone, I will make him a helper comparable to him.'" Most of us assume the very next thing that happened was Eve being formed. It wasn't.
Genesis 2:19 (NKJV) continues, "Out of the ground the Lord God formed every beast of the field and every bird of the air, and brought them to Adam to see what he would call them." God had already said He would make a helper. But what He actually did first was bring the animals to Adam. Adam had a choice in front of him. Would he walk in the authority God already gave him and name what was placed before him, or not?
He chose to. Genesis 2:20 says Adam gave names to all the cattle, the birds, and every beast of the field. And it was only after that, only after Adam exercised the authority that was already his, that the verse tells us Adam did not find a helper comparable to himself among them. That's when God caused the deep sleep to fall on him and formed Eve. The first words we ever hear Adam speak in Scripture come right after that, in Genesis 2:23 (NKJV): "This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man." He spoke with the same authority he'd already been walking in.
Adam was created with authority. He inherited it. But he still had to choose to walk in it. That choice came before the manifestation, not after.
Choosing to Show Up
I think about this every time I think about how SheShed started. The instruction was already there in spirit, to teach God's Word to women in a way they could actually understand. But that instruction didn't manifest itself. I had to choose to actually show up, set up the page, make the announcement, and prepare to teach. I could have made a different choice. I could have said never mind. What was created in spirit only became real because I chose to let it.
Shed the "Devil Made Me Do It"
Here's a belief I need you to shed today. The devil made me do it. He doesn't have that power. He can put temptation in front of you, he knows exactly what gets your attention, but he cannot make the choice for you. That choice has always been yours. You can't always choose what happens to you, but you can always choose your response to it.
Shed the belief that anything you've done or experienced in your past has negated God's ability to bring His design for you to pass. If that were true, we wouldn't serve a merciful God. But we do. Your age doesn't disqualify you. Your past doesn't disqualify you. It's never too late to choose to walk in what He already created you to carry.
I'll be honest about where this lands for me personally. That door is closed for me when it comes to having more children. But I am still choosing to be fruitful and multiply, just not the way I once thought I would. I'm choosing to pour into the young women I disciple so that what's in me multiplies through them. That's a choice. Every single day, it's a choice.
Take this to the Word yourself. Genesis 2:18-23, James 1:13-15, Joshua 24:15.
What This Means for You
What is one choice in front of you right now that would let what God already created in you actually take shape?
This continues The Designer You series. Last time, we talked about why faith requires action and what that means for things still waiting to be formed. Next, we'll close out the series by talking about your past and whether it can really stop what God designed for your life.
If a written post stirred something in you, wait until you hear it taught live. I teach God's Word weekly inside the SheShed Community, and this is exactly the kind of teaching that hits different when you're in the room for it. The replay of this teaching, "The Designer You," is available inside the community as well. Come sit with us.
