How Does God Know When I'm Not Walking in My Original Design?

God always knows when what He's looking at is not the original. Not because He's watching to catch you, but because He's the Designer. And designers can always tell.
There's something about the counterfeit industry that gives it away every time. You could be walking around completely confident with what you think is the real thing. Feeling good. Looking good. And then the designer walks in the room. And within seconds, they know. Not because you told them. Not because you confessed. They know because they made the original and they can spot everything that's off, even things your naked eye would never catch.
God works the same way.
The Designer Always Knows
Think about what happened after the fall in Genesis 3. Adam and Eve had just made a choice that changed everything. They sewed fig leaves together, covered themselves, and hid in the trees. They thought they were handling it. They had a plan. And then God showed up.
Genesis 3:9 (NKJV) says, "Then the Lord God called to Adam and said to him, 'Where are you?'"
Now here's what I need you to understand about that question. God already knew. He didn't call out to Adam because He was confused about Adam's location. He called out because He wanted Adam to answer for himself. The Designer always knows. The question wasn't for God's benefit. It was for Adam's.
And look at what God saw when He looked at them. Not just the fig leaves. He saw shame that He never designed. He saw fear that He never created. He saw hiding that was never part of the plan. He saw blame when Adam pointed at Eve and Eve pointed at the serpent. One moment, one choice, and all of these counterfeit things had showed up on people He created to be free.
The Designer looked right at them and said, what is this? This is not what I made.
Mamas Know Too
Here's another way to think about it. Every mama out there knows her child. She knows how she raised them, what she taught them, how she trained them to carry themselves. So when her child goes out into the world and comes back acting some kind of way, she knows. That ain't how I raised you. I don't know who you've been around or what you've been doing, but that right there is not my child.
God is that kind of Designer. He knows exactly what He put in you. He knows your original design down to the details. And when what He's looking at doesn't match, He sees it. Every single time.
He Can Also Penalize
Here's the part we don't always like to talk about. Designers don't just notice the counterfeit. They penalize it. In the counterfeit industry, first time offenders trafficking counterfeit goods can face up to 10 years in prison and a two million dollar fine. Second time offenders can face 20 years and a five million dollar fine. The penalties are severe because the designer's work, their name, their reputation, their trade is at stake.
God penalized the trafficker too. Genesis 3:14-15 (NKJV) says, "So the Lord God said to the serpent: 'Because you have done this, you are cursed more than all cattle, and more than every beast of the field; on your belly you shall go, and you shall eat dust all the days of your life. And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise His heel.'"
Notice the language. Because you have done this. The penalty came with a reason attached. The serpent trafficked a counterfeit version of God's Word to get Adam and Eve to make a counterfeit choice. And God saw it. God named it. And God penalized it.
The enemy did not get away with what he did in that garden. And he will not get away with what he has tried to do in your life either.
What This Means for You
Where in your life have you been hiding something from God that He already sees?
This continues The Counterfeit You series. Last time, we looked at why that feeling of something being off is real and where it came from. Next, we'll get into where the wrong patterns in our lives actually come from, and why the enemy's tactics work so well on so many of us.
I teach God's Word weekly inside the SheShed Community, and this is exactly the kind of teaching that hits different when you're in the room for it. The replay of this teaching, "The Counterfeit You," is available inside the community as well. Come sit with us.
